The in-game text describing the behaviour is extremely poorly phrased for Research Centers, arguably to the point of being just wrong. The text looks like this:

Produces 20 research points after every 40 ticks.
Production bonus of each Big report: 16 research bonus

In a sense these figures are accurate (an unconnected RC does indeed produce 20 research points/40 ticks, and there is a component of the Big report bonus that is using the figure `16`). However, the actual reality of the behaviour is as follows:

There are 3 variables:
- Points per 40 ticks: P.
  - (20, unless upgraded in Extra tab)
- Big Report Stock: S.
  - (Initially 4; Upgradable; Max 80.)
- Bonus per Big Report: B.
  - (Initially 16; Upgradable; Max 192.)

Given those 3 variables, the Center will output: P * (1 + (S*B)) research points

For example:

If a non-upgraded Center has 1 Big report in stock when it performs its next round of Research (after 40 ticks), then it will generate (20 * (1 + 1*16)) = 340 RP
If a partially-upgraded (Level 3, Level 3) Center has 16 Big report in stock, then it'll generate (20 * (1 + 16*24)) = 7700 RP
If a fully-upgraded Center with both paid-for Extra upgrades has 80 Big report in stock, then it'll generate (240 * (1 + 80*192)) = 3686640 RP
